The fast time made by the City of Peking carries with it a meaning of more iImportance than a simple pride of record. The City of Peking reached this port at 4 o'clock on the morning of the 7th. Although her passengers and malls were landed immediately the ship was compelled to lay in the stream until noon, waiting for a berth and an opportunity to dlscharge her freight.

By noon yesterday every pound of freight was aboard tbe cars ready for transportatlon to New York. If the Railroad Company Is as anxious to do expeditious work as the Pacific Mail Company has shown itself to be, this cargo of tea will be delivered in New York in eleven days. Allowing for the day consumed in transferring the cargo from the steamship to the railroad, this will be but twenty-seven days from Yokohama to New York! This, too, when the City of Peking, though out-travelling all competitors, has not done the best ol which she is capable. As the Pacific Mall Is the only steamship line of any Importance which floats the American flag on the high seas, this little victory should be peculiarly gratifying to the American people.
