San Francisco Call
Decembver 13, 1887

There were two men on board the schooner, Jennie Griffin, from Point Reyes; Captain Charles Boyle and Jack Hamilton.

Hamilton relates that at 6 o'clock yesterday morning, when the vessel was 6 miles north of Pt. Bonita, he was asleep below, when he was awakened by the sails flapping. He ran on deck and found the schooner up in the wind and the captain missing. He managed to get her before the wind and brought her safely in port.

The missing captain, Charles Boyle, was a native of Scotland, 35 years of age, and resided at 35 Church Street. He was married two years ago, and leaves a wife and one child.

Captain Boyle was sick in the early part of the year. He took a trip to Europe, returning a month ago, when the captain resumed his trading of butter in the schooners.

He was subject to epileptic fits, and it is supposed that while at the wheel, the unfortunate captain was seized with one of them, fell overboard and was drowned.
