The P. M. Steamship Co.'s Steamer Sonora, Capt R. L. Whiting, arrived from Panama last evening, bringing dates from New York to the 6th of January, ten days later than were previously recieved.

The P. M. Steamship Sonora, R. L. Whiting, commander, left Panama on Wednesday, Jan 16th, at 6 o'clock p.m., with 611 passengers, the mails from New York per George Law, January 6th; from New Orleans, per Philadelphia, Jan 5th, and 600 packages express freight and foreign goods.

The mail steamer Sonora, Capt. Dick Whiting, arrived last night at 9 o'clock, but it was nearly midnight before we could get the first of our dispatch, the storm interrupting the working of wires.

Latest Dates from LIVERPOOL.

The news from Russia is to the effect that new fortifications are rising at every place likely to be attacked. Large convoys have entered the Crimea, and a lot of vessels have gone from Cronstadt to Sweborg. There has been some lighting in the Crimea.

A dispatch from Sevastopol (image below) of December, states that between two and three thousand infantry and four or five hundred cavalry have attacked Dagka Orkusta and Skvaka. Alter an hour's sharp firing, the enemy beat a retreat, leaving in our hands about thirty prisoners, of whom two are officers, besides killed and wounded, the number of whom is unknown at present. Our loss is insignificant. The Russians have recaptured Kara, having starred out the garrison.

The English Parliament will open on 31st January. Considerable misunderstanding prevails between Lord Palmerston and his colleagues. The former and and Panmure continue to urge the war, while the rest of the Cabinet are desirous to embrace the present opportunity for peace, on this peace view the Emperor Napoleon is stated to incline. Palmerston holds the threat of dissolution of Parliament over his colleague's heads.
