THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Lynn Boyd, of Kentucky, elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.
OUTRAGE ON THE STEAMER PROMETHEUS
Illness of Henry Clay.

The fine steamer Independence, of Vanderbilt s Independent Line, commanded by Capt. Lucas, arrived in our harbor last evening at 11 o clock. She left San Juan del Sud on the 22d of December at 7-1/2 P.M., and has consequently made the run in about 17 days. We tender our acknowledgements to Capt. Lucas for stopping his steamer in the lower bay to permit our untiring marine reporter to come on board.

Purser Freeborn has our thanks for memoranda, passenger list and files of latest papers.

To Gregorys Express we are indebted for late New York papers and the delivery of our correspondence.

Berford & Co. also have our thanks for the early delivery of files of the latest New York Papers.

The Independence brings two hundred and fifty passengers, a list of whom will be found under the proper head.

We have no further intelligence of the state of the revolution in Nicaragua.

By this arrival, we have received dates from New York to the 8th of December. This is six days later than previously received by the Northerner from Panama. The intelligence, though of no particular moment, is of very great interest.
