Arrive San Francisco

March 14, 1852
SS Tennessee
Captain G.M. Totten
From Panama

Passage

17 days from Panama, via intermediate ports. Departed Panama on the evening of February 26, 1852.

From the Alta:
The emigration is still on the increase with 3,000 persons on the Isthmus waiting for passage. Tickets are sold for months ahead.

Saw the steamer North America wrecked and lying on her broadside with surf breaking heavily against her sides. She appears to be a total loss and lies at a place called Los Ramidas, near the mouth of the river Nepa, 50-75 miles below Acapulco, Mexico.

The Tennessee put into Acapulco, Mexico and there obtained additional news of the North America. It was impossible for the Tennessee to take away the passengers of the North America, the former being filled to utmost capacity.

On March 3, 1852, the Tennessee spoke the bark Elizabeth, at anchor 20 miles south of Acapulco. The bark was 65 days from Panama and in want of water and provisions, which were furnished by the Tennessee. Passengers of the Elizabeth, numbering 120, had left on March 3rd, by boats for Acapulco, Mexico. The bark was found for San Francisco.

The following passengers died on board the Tennessee during passage:

C.H. Palmer (Date of death not printed>)
O.O. Force, of Newark, Wayne County, New York (no date of death listed).

Cargo

Not listed.
