Passage:
Daily Alta California, August 22, 1850
The steamship Republic, Capt. Hudson, arrived yesterday morning, from Panama. She left that port about ten ours after the Northerner, and put into Acapulco for coal, where she remained three days. She brings 405 passengers, all of whom, with but one or two exceptions, are in good health. One passenger died, and another, by the name of W. Benks, while in a delirious state of mind, leaped overboard and was lost. The Republic becoming a little short of coal touched in at Monterey. She is a good looking vessel, and from what little we saw of her accommodations, she is certainly not inferior to any of the vessels in the line. She leaves again on the 1st, and will connect on the Atlantic side with the Ohio, Georgia, or the Falcon, being one of Law�s Line of steamers.
